Bangalore is located at a height of about 920 m above sea level, and is the principal administrative, commercial and industrial centre of the South Indian state of Karnataka. Typically the "winters" are warm and summers are hot, but not excessively so. There is a very brief "spring" when within a period of 15 days many trees shed their leaves and get new ones. Suddenly there is a burst of new leaves and flowers, as if the trees and plants have noticed some change in the air which we have all missed. This phenomenon is at its splendorous best during this time of the year. The still photography is woefully inadequate to capture the music of the birds singing.

The photos were taken in Cubbon Park. The park stretches over an area of 300 acres in the very heart of the city, with beautiful and well laid out lawns, grassy expanses, flowering trees, a water fountain and a childrens' playground. Within the park are situated the Jawahar Bala Bhavan (childrens' theatre), the Government Museum, Viswesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum and the Government Aquarium. Opposite Cubbon Park is the Vidhana Soudha - a massive and imposing structure in granite, built in 1954, that houses the State legislature.
